TRV950 and TRV50 Still Photos

On this page you'll find samples of photos taken with SONY TRV950 and TRV50 cameras in their "Memory Stick" mode. UnderSea Video Housings allow the user to change from "Camera" ("Video") mode to "Memory" mode while underwater so that still photos can be captured at the highest resolution the camera allows. Note: photos can be saved to Memory Stick on the TRV50 and TRV950 without making the change out of "Camera" mode but the photos are at a lower resolution.

These photos were taken at Little Cayman and Grand Cayman during January 2003 and no artificial lights or strobes were used (except for the Eel photo) . The cameras were inside USVH MiniDV housings equipped with the SONY High-Grade .7x wide angle lens and a UR-PRO "CY" color-correction filter. There are some more photos here taken with our new Manta Ray Lights.

We spent most of the time underwater shooting video, but for some subjects we shot some video, pressed a button to get into "Memory" mode, then pressed a button to take a photo, then pressed another button to return to video. Some subjects are better for video and some are better for photo and it's nice to be able to switch quickly back and forth.

The photos on this page have not been altered or manipulated in any way except for minor adjustments to "levels" in Photoshop (adjusts blacks and whites in the image), "sharpen filter", cropping, and resizing. No alterations to the colors or specific areas of the photo have been made. We realize that more manipulation could make these photos look better but our intent was to demonstrate the capabilities of the cameras, not the capabilities of the computer artist.

The photos linked to this page are at 72dpi and are not suitable for printing. In the near future we'll add links to some full-size photos that can be printed at 200-300 dpi to allow for a more complete evaluation of the picture quality available from these two cameras. We'll also be adding links to some other photos that will be added to other areas of our website.

The first few photos offer a direct comparison between the TRV950 and TRV50.
