![]() On this page you'll find samples of photos taken with the SONY TRV950 in the"Memory Stick" mode. UnderSea Video Housings allow the user to change from "Camera" ("Video") mode to "Memory" mode while underwater so that still photos can be captured at the highest resolution the camera allows. Please note that the video segments for these subjects are sharper and contain more depth than the photos here can demonstrate. These photos were taken at Little Cayman and Grand Cayman during January 2003 and were taken with, and without the USVH Manta Ray lights shown in the photo above. For these photos the lights were set at their highest setting; 3600 total lumens. (The Manta Ray lights also have electronic dimming for proper lighting of closeups and macro subjects.) The cameras were inside USVH MiniDV housings equipped with the SONY High-Grade .7x wide angle lens. A UR-PRO "CY" color-correction filter was used as noted with the individual photos. The reason the filter was left on for many photos taken with lights is because the predominant amount of ambient blue light found at depths below 60-80 feet must be mixed, or combined with artificial light to help the camera render colors properly. The color temperature of our lights is 4100K (less blue than HID/HMI lamps) but when there is lots of ambient blue light even our lights are too blue to provide the proper mix of light. In these cases the filter can be left on to acheive the best possible colors. When the camera and lights are close enough to the subject to overpower the ambient blue light or the subject is in shallow water the filter is not needed when our lights are used. The photos on these pages have not been altered or manipulated in any way except for minor adjustments to "levels" in Photoshop (adjusts blacks and whites in the image), "sharpen filter" and resizing. There was no cropping (trimming from the edges) from the original photo because we want to show the even dispersion of light from the Manta Ray lights throughout the entire image that the camera sees. No alterations to the colors or specific areas of the photo have been made. We realize that more manipulation could make these photos look better but our intent was to demonstrate the capabilities of the camera and lights, not the capabilities of the computer artist. The photos linked to this page are at 72dpi to keep the download times short. They are not suitable for printing at good resolution. |
