Most underwater
filming is done with the housing at arm's
length above, below, or next to you (your
body should stay away from the surrounding
reef) and it is virtually impossible to
look into the camera's viewfinder. A
viewfinder magnifyer installed on the
housing backplate is of little help so
some housing companies who can't provide
an auxillary LCD (because their mechanical
control rods are in the way) offer an
extra wide housing so the monitor on the
camera can be unfolded. This is also a
poor solution because the monitor is too
far forward inside the shell to be seen
unless you are looking directly into the
back of the housing.

More than 95% of our
customers use our auxillary LCD monitor
with their housing because it is much
easier to see what you are filming. You
can rely on the monitor to help with
accurate framing, zooming, and focusing.
The USVH LCD monitor can be used inside
any of our housings and it mounts directly
behind the camera on the camera's mounting
plate.
There are many types
of LCD monitors sold by other housing
manufacturers but most of them are not as
sharp and colorful. The USVH Hi-Resolution
LCD monitor has a resolution of
480x234-more than 112K pixels in a 2.5"
screen. The only other housing company
offering a monitor this good is LMI and
they sell it in a backplate for
$700+.
The USVH
Hi-Resolution LCD monitor is powered by
your small camera battery (FM30/50 or
F-330/550) and the monitor automatically
turns on and off with the camera to save
monitor battery life. The FM50 and F550
will run the monitor for almost 3 hours.
You can use a QM70 or QM71D, or F750
battery to run your camera for
approximately 4 hours. The housing shells
are not long enough to accomodate the QM90
and F950 batteries.
The USVH
Hi-Resolution monitor is available in NTSC
(USA) or PAL versions.
